Ndiraya speaks on the Harare derby

One of the most anticipated local fixtures, the Harare Derby is on today, 15 months after the last one was played at Rufaro Stadium.  The venue is different this afternoon as Dynamos and CAPS United meet at the National Sports Stadium, in the Chibuku Super Cup.

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw in the last encounter in 2019 at Rufaro Stadium. The Glamour Boys are top of group one, two points ahead of second placed CAPS United. Both teams were victorious in their previous matches, Dynamos beating ZPC Kariba 1-0 and CAPS United won 2-1 over Herentals.

Dynamos head coach Tonderai Ndiraya believes the result against ZPC Kariba was crucial ahead of the derby.

“This win gave us confidence as a team although Sunday’s game will be a different game altogether.

“It’s that consistency that we are now demanding from the players. We are hoping to get a positive result. Our performance against CAPS United is really going to be based on how quickly our boys are going to recover. We are going to make sure that we carry that process in a good manner.”

The coach also believes that having both experienced and young players in the squad will work in their favour.

“I’m happy this time that we have a good blend of experienced players and youngsters in the squad, that will make our team strong. We not only have Bill Antonio but also 17-year old Luke Musikiri who played few minutes on Thursday. We have Hamilton Gomba, who is perhaps the fastest of the three.”

Ndiraya’s squad has kept faith in the same 20 players from the previous game but added two more, King Nadolo and David Temwanjera. He has started with the same team in the previous two matches against Yadah and ZPC Kariba.
